Mary A. Harrington, formerly of W. Birch Street in Hazleton and for the past five years a resident of Providence Place in Drums, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lattimer Mines on May 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Eleanora (Pelliconi) Alampi.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Harrington in 2004; and a brother, Cosimo Alampi; and sister, Frances Carver.

Mary was a member of St. Gabriel's R.C. Church in Hazleton. A 1939 graduate of Hazleton High School. A member of the Hazleton Art League, Hazleton Women's Club and she had a great love for the fine arts, music and painting. She published a book in 2008, "The collected Works of Mary A. Harrington Artistry and Poetry" with over 60 poems and 40 paintings in it.

She worked many wholesalesexy lingerie years ago as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Honesdale. From 1968-86, she was a secretary/ receptionist in the loan department of the Hazleton National Bank. After retiring from the bank, she worked as a secretary for five years for the United Cerebral Palsy, located at the convent in St Gabriel's Church.

She is survived by three children, James W. Harrington Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.; Robert P. Harrington, Sugarloaf; and Elaine L. Harrington, Port St. Lucie, Fa. One granddaughter, Devonna Harrington and two brothers, John Alampi, Bedminster; and Dan Alampi, Hazleton.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family on Friday with the Rev. Connell McHugh offering the blessings and prayers. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.

There will be no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the Hazleton Art League 225 E. Broad St., Hazleton, or to the Hazleton Area Public Library N. Church St., Hazleton.
