DATE: 08/05/2010 03:45:28 / MOOD:

The West Carrollton trucker accused of killing his driving partner last week near LVBracelet Buffalo, N.Y., has pleaded not guilty, the Erie County (N.Y.) District Attorney's Office said Friday, Feb. 5.

Rudy A. Arnette, 46, remains in jail without bond on a second- degree murder charge, secretaries in the D.A.'s office said. Arnette is accused of beating Robert L. Frew to undergo shoulder surge
DATE: 08/03/2010 21:43:54 / MOOD:

WENDY FREW is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and forgo the Commonwealth Games in an effort to get her troublesome left shoulder back to normal again.

The Southland netballer was named in a 17-strong Silver Ferns squad for the 2010-11 international programme yesterday but may not feature again on the netball court until next year.

Frew has been plagued by a labral tear in her left shoulder since August and will head to Christchurch next week to undergo keyhole surgery.

She is expected to be out for a couple of months as she recovers from the operation and carries out rehabilitation, which puts her place in jeopardy for the Commonwealth Games in October.

The 25-year-old's shoulder was heavily strapped while playing for Steel in this year's ANZ Championship and admitted it had caused her heavy discomfort as the season had worn on.

"After the game, it's been pretty sore . . . I wanted to last for the Steel girls and make that top four."

She said she was sick and tired of the constant pain and said surgery had become a necessity.

"It's one of those injuries where I thought I could keep boxing on . 深圳盐田搬家公司. .

"It (surgery) was a really hard decision. Obviously my goal is still the Commonwealth Games and I'm still hoping I can get back there for it. It's a tough decision, but if I miss that, there's bigger and brighter things in the future."

She was optimistic she might be able to recover from the operation and be fit for the Games, but acknowledged it would be a "long shot" and she did not want to rush back before she was ready.

"I'm hoping (the recovery) is just a few months. I'll be doing all the rehab I need to do to get back as soon as I can.

"At the same time, I want it fixed completely. I'm not going to come back early when it could hinder me in the future."

Frew said her major focus was to get her body right again ahead of next year's ANZ Championship and the world championships in Singapore.

"The long-term goal is certainly the world championships and trying to cement a position and play well . . .

It's ugly getting into U.S.
DATE: 08/03/2010 00:26:15 / MOOD:

Having removed his shoes, coat, gloves, hat, jacket, wallet and keys, your correspondent walked through the metal detector. It beeped. He had forgotten to remove his belt. The two security guards began to shout and make disparaging remarks about his ability to perform simple tasks.

This scene occurred outside the American DiscountWomens Fashion Shoes Embassy in London last month, when he was renewing his visa. The rest of the process passed smoothly, but those boorish security guards were a poor advertisement for the greatest country on Earth.

Americans are, by and large, a courteous bunch. Interactions with strangers are typically sweetened with a generous frosting of "Sir," "Ma'am" and "Excuse me." Yet in a survey commissioned by the travel industry, more than half of visitors found American border officials rude and unpleasant. By a two-to-one margin, the country's entry process was rated the world's worst.

This is not a problem only for whining journalists and other foreign riff-raff. It is also a problem for America.

The system is geared towards keeping out a tiny number of terrorists. Fair enough -- such people should indeed be kept out. But there should be a trade-off.

An immigration official lives in fear of admitting the next Mohammed Atta, but there is no penalty for excluding the next Einstein, or for humiliating tourists who subsequently summer in France.

Osama bin Laden has arguably inflicted more harm on America indirectly than directly. To stop his acolytes from striking again, the government has made entering America far more difficult and degrading than it need be.

This has slowed the influx of foreign brains. In 2001, 28 per cent of students who studied abroad did so at American universities. By 2008 that figure had shrunk to 21 per cent, though since the absolute number of globally mobile students grew by 50 per cent over that period, the absolute number in America has flattened, not fallen.

Does this matter? Well, foreigners and immigrants make up more than half of the scientific researchers in the United States, notes Edward Alden, the author of a fine book called The Closing of the American Border.

Among post-doctoral students doing top-level research, 60 per cent are foreign-born. Boffins flock to America because its universities are the best, but the ordeal of getting a visa prompts many to take their ideas elsewhere.

A similar problem afflicts even short-term visitors. Organizers of international scientific conferences are increasingly reluctant to hold them in America because not everyone they invite will be able to attend.

Barack Obama came to office promising to reform the immigration system. So far, he has made only small changes, such as ending commando-style raids on factories suspected of hiring illegal workers; other matters have demanded his attention. But behind the scenes there are rumblings about immigration.

Angela Kelley, of the Center for American Progress, a think-tank closely aligned with the Obama administration, says she is optimistic that something will happen this year.

Last week, her think-tank published a study touting the benefits of reform. Its author, Raul Hinojosa-Ojeda, of the University of California, Los Angeles, models what might happen if immigration laws are made more welcoming.

First, he assumes that Congress creates a pathway for the estimated 12 milOther articles:http://www.wedding-networks.com/blog/view/id_221/title_football-anelka-we-can-nic-it/http://www.propertycademy.com/blog/view/id_671/title_Pooling-Resources/

Italian extradited to Orange C

Italian extradited to Orange County to face trial on bribery charges

LOS ANGELES, July 6 (Xinhua) -- An Italian citizen who was wanted by the United States prosecutors for bribing foreign officials for business opportunities has been extradited to Orange County, California and is expected to appear in court next week, the authorities said on Tuesday.

Arsenal

Flavio Ricotti, 49, a native of Bientina, Italy and one of six executives with a Rancho Santa Margarita-based valve firm who were charged in a 16-count indictment in April 2009 for their roles in the bribery scheme, was arrested Feb. 14 in Frankfurt, Germany and brought in to the U.S. on Friday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Doug McCormick said.

The former executive with Control Components Inc. (CCI) is accused of having his employees make about 750,000 U.S. dollars in bribes to state-owned companies abroad and about 380,000 dollars in bribes to private companies. He served as vice president and head of sales for Europe, Africa and the Middle East from 2001 through 2007 for the Southern California company.

The company's former chief executive Stuart Carson and his wife, Hong Rose Carson who was former director of sales for China, as well as other ranking officers of the firm were indicted by federal prosecutors. Former president of CCI's office in South Korea Han Yong Kim is the only person who remains at large, according to McCormick.

As a company, CCI pleaded guilty to conspiracy in a decade-long scheme to secure contracts in approximately 36 countries by paying bribes to officials and employees of various foreign state-owned companies as well as foreign and domestic private companies, thus violating the watches-uForeign Corrupt Practices Act and the Travel Act.

CCI was ordered to pay an 18.2 million dollars crime fine and put on probation for three years. It acknowledged that, from 2003 through 2007, the company's executives made about 236 bribes in more than 30 countries to get about 46.5 million dollars in business, according to federal prosecutors.

According to the Department of Justice, CCI made corrupt payments to foreign officials at state-owned entities including Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, Petronas (Malaysia) and National Petroleum Construction Company (United Arab Emirates).

In addition to agreeing to pay the fine, CCI also agreed to create, implement and maintain a comprehensive anti-bribery compliance program, retain an independent compliance monitor for a three-year period to review the design and implementation of its anti-bribery compliance program, serve a three-year term of organizational probation, and ReplicaTachnomarine Watches continue to cooperate with the Department of Justice in its ongoing investigation.

According to the indictment, the bribes were made in connection with CCI projects around the globe, including the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, India and Qatar. The company designs and makes control valves used in nuclear, oil, gas and power- generation industries.

Ricotti is charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the Travel Act, a count of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and three counts of violating the Travel Act.

Trial is scheduled for Nov. 2, the prosecutors said.

Butter versus margarine! [Diet
DATE: 08/01/2010 23:12:25 / MOOD:

For years we have been discouraged from eating butter, largely due to its high fat and calorie content and nutritionists have often suggested margarine as a healthier substitute.

Replica2009 New Arrival Watch

However, a recent study conducted by Harvard University, suggests the contrary. Although they are both sources of fat, butter and margarine contain different kinds of fat, which is important when deciding which one of the two is a healthier option, suggests the study.

What is margarine? Margarine is used as a substitute for butter and it contains saturated fats. These are produced when hydrogen is heated in order to harden vegetable oils. It is often claimed that margarine contains polyunsaturated fats that contain Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils which are essential fatty-acids, but the body cannot manufacture them. However, the high temperature needed to produce margarine, destroys and vitamin E and other nutrients left in the oil. The final product contains ReplicaIWC Schaffhausen Watches trans-fatty acids which increase inflammation in the body. One of margarine's supposed virtues is that it can help reduce cholesterol levels in the bloodstream, and thereby afford some protection from 'cardiovascular' conditions such as heart diseases and strokes.

Difference between margarine and butter: Both Margarine and butter contain the same amount of calories present in them. On the contrary butter contains natural fats, which are essential for the strengthening the bones and has many nutritional benefits.

Ill-effects of margarine: Excess intake of margarine can worsen illnesses such as colitis and arthritis. The hardening agents used in the production of margarine include nickel and cadmium. Nickel is a toxic metal that when consumed in excess, causes lung and kidney problems. Cadmium is among the most toxic of the heavy metals. It may contribute to serious diseases such as ReplicaCorum arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure and malignancy. The study conducted at Harvard University, found that a diet high in trans-fat, which doubles the chance for heart attack and decreases life expectancy.

Solution: The best way to control the rising cholesterol levels, is by eating everything in moderation and not anything in excess. All products such as eggs, full cream milk, etc. contain minerals and proteins which are essential for the bones and cutting out these products will only lead to further health hazards.

Butter spreads out; Inbrief
DATE: 08/01/2010 23:12:12 / MOOD:

A Great British Butter advertising campaign fronted by former Sex Pistol John Lydon has given Country Life the edge over rival Anchor for the first time, the brand's owner Dairy Crest claimed yesterday.

FakeEbel Watches

The company, which also sells Cathedral City cheese and Frijj flavoured milk, said Country Life was the UK's fastest growing butter brand and had overtaken Anchor in terms of value of market share.

Dairy Crest said FakeChristian Dior all five of its key brands continued to perform well after benefiting from high levels of advertising and promotional ChristianDior Bags spend. It added that Cathedral City remained larger than the next three cheddar brands combined, while St Hubert Omega 3 spread continued to gain market share and Clover had increased its slice of the butter, spreads and margarine market. Dairy Crest said Frijj continued to go from "strength to strength" and now held more than half the total flavoured fresh milk category.

Cards' pressure dooms Janesvil
DATE: 07/29/2010 21:31:17 / MOOD:

The press led to pressure on Janesville Craig's girls basketball team here Tuesday night, and the Cougars wilted over the final 12 minutes.

For 2 1/2 quarters, the depleted Cougars stayed with first-place Middleton. Emily Hinman's basket underneath pulled Craig High within

27-26 with 4:21 remaining in the third quarter.

Middleton then outscored the Cougars 18-5 over the next 6:40 for a 45-31 lead en route to a 60-45 victory that kept the Cardinals (13-3, 10-2) tied for the Big Eight lead.

"I thought we played well in the first half, just keeping the game at a slower tempo," Craig coach Mark Marsden said.

Along with the Middleton press, which forced 12 second-half Craig turnovers, the Cougars (7-9, 6-6) played short-handed without starting center Anne Morgan and guard Ciarra Sroda due to injuries. Craig also juggled its starting lineup due to some team rule violations.

"We had some kids that weren't normally starters start tonight and probably will again against Parker (on Friday), due some (broken) team rules," Marsden said. "But I was happy with that lineup. We kind of played toe-to-toe with them, but you can't make mistakes like that against a good team."

Lindsey and Whitney Oliver each had 11 points to lead Craig.

Kerry Gardner had 18 of her 23 points in the second half, including five straight points to cap the 18-5 run for Middleton. Rachel Eklund also had 23

points for the Cardinals, with 12 in the second half.

Whitney Oliver stopped a 9-0 Middleton run to end the third quarter and keep the Cougars within 36-28. A rebound basket cut the lead to 38-31 with 5:41 left ManchesterCity in the fourth quarter.

Rachel Eklund made a lay-up seven seconds later, and the Middleton press forced back-to-back Craig turnovers on in-bounds passes. That led to consecutive baskets from Gardner to complete a 7-0 run in 25 seconds for a comfortable 45-31 lead.

"We finally got a little run and started making some shots," Middleton coach Jeff Kind said. "The press kind of wore them down a little bit at the end."

Craig's Emily Hinman ended the run with a lay-up, but the Cougars did not make another basket over the next three minutes as Middleton pulled away.

"I thought it was one of our hardest-played games of the year," Marsden said. "Our kids really played hard. We are just a little short-handed. Our kids just kind of wore out a little bit and made some weak passes."
