the missing link
DATE: 09/20/2010 21:15:48 / MOOD:
The Missing LinkCHAPTER I: CRIME & PUNISHMENT A medieval scene was in progress in the peaceful village of Udhampur. Or at least it looked like that to the onlookers and those who passed by.. A young boy must be around 14 by the looks of him was tied to a tree and was being caned. His body had taken on a bluish tinge from the beatings and it looked like his life would be snuffed out any moment. People had gathered around him and were offering sympathetic glances but none of them moved an inch. The perpetrator of it all was a tall gruffy looking man. He looked imposing. Imposing enough to strike fear. He was the sarpanch's brother-in law and was for all practical purposes the ‘dispenser of justice' for the village. His fast track court granted speedy justice sometimes so speedy that between this life and the other there would be no time lag at all! Before this too a few people had been beaten up by him. One of them had succumbed to his injuries but the matter was hushed up. "You Ma@$#%^*# this is how you pay us back? By stealing? You will pay for this. No one escapes from Thakur Bhavani Singh's clutches" "I did not steal", replicaZenith Watches , the boy mumbled weakly, replicaLouis Vuitton Watches , spewing blood but Thakur Bhavani Singh was in no mood to relent. After a session that lasted a good half an hour the boy dropped unconscious. The Thakur had left him for dead. CHAPTER II: RAJINDER & PUSHPA "Kya baat hai! Aaj bade khush nazar aa rahe ho?" This was the question the chaiwallah had interrupted Rajinder with. The question was apt but the interruption wasn't! Rajinder was happily humming a song lost in his own world. He was really happy today. The medical reports of him & his wife Pushpa had come in and the doctor had said that it would be just a matter of time before they could have a kid. At last he thought. They could become proud parents to a tiny tod. They had been trying to conceive for quite sometime but to no avail. Their childless marriage had provided much fodder for gossip in their village Sajjanpur. Rajinder had started doubting his virility thinking he was sterile. However he and his wife had undergone all the checks and now the reports had cleared them. But there was another reason he was happy. He had started poor; really down in the dumps but was now doing fine. He had started commercial vehicle rentals; began with one vehicle and now had a decent fleet size of ten. He employed drivers drove a few himself and made the money that came out of it. He also leased these vehicles to the big farmers for their transportation. He was making good money out of it. It had not just assured him a livelihood; it was helping him achieve his goals one by one. Securing for the unborn child his/her education and so on. He could see the gap between him and his dreams getting bridged. However Rajinder had bigger dreams. He was looking at expansion getting more ‘clients' or farmers he could lease his vehicles to. Someone had suggested the village Dharamgaon to him. It was many miles away but was affluent. The farmers there had their own vehicles but depended upon commercial vehicles for transport and load haulage. "Tum wahan par chale kyon nahi jaate? Wahan par paisa accha khasa milega tumko. Wahan ke sarpanch se mil aao bahut acche aadmi hai" his friend had said. Rajinder had a new resolve in his eyes. Tomorrow will be off to Dharamgaon in the morning itself. This thing can't wait. advertising precious informa
DATE: 09/08/2010 20:33:57 / MOOD:
Advertising - Precious Information Or Vicious Manipulation? Is advertising the ultimate means to inform and help us in our everyday decision-making or is it just an excessively powerful form of mass deception used by companies to persuade their prospects and customers to buy products and services they do not need? Consumers in the global village are exposed to increasing number of advertisement messages and spending for advertisements is increasing accordingly. It will not be exaggerated if we conclude that we are 'soaked in this cultural rain of marketing communications' through TV press cinema Internet etc. (Hackley and Kitchen 1999). But if thirty years ago the marketing communication tools were used mainly as a product-centered tactical means now the promotional mix and in particular the advertising is focused on signs and semiotics. Some argue that the marketers' efforts eventually are "turning the economy into symbol so that it means something to the consumer" (Williamson cited in Anonymous Marketing Communications 2006: 569). One critical consequence is that many of the contemporary advertisements "are selling us ourselves" (ibid.) The abovementioned process is influenced by the commoditisation of products and blurring of consumer's own perceptions of the companies' offering. In order to differentiate and position their products and/or services today's businesses employ advertising which is sometimes considered not only of bad taste but also as deliberately intrusive and manipulative. The issue of bad advertising is topical to such extent that organisations like Adbusters have embraced the tactics of subvertising - revealing the real intend behind the modern advertising. The Adbusters magazine editor-in-chief Kalle Lason commented on the corporate image building communication activities of the big companies: "We know that oil companies aren't really friendly to nature, replica Jimmychoo Handbags , and tobacco companies don't really care about ethics" (Arnold 2001). On the other hand the "ethics and social responsibility are important determinants of such long-term gains as survival long-term profitability and competitiveness of the organization" (Singhapakdi 1999). Without communications strategy that revolves around ethics and social responsibility the concepts of total quality and customer relationships building become elusive. However there could be no easy clear-cut ethics formula of marketing communications. ADVERTISING - PRESCIOUS INFORMATION OR VICIOUS MANIPULATION? In order to get insights into the consumer perception about the role of advertising we have reviewed a number of articles and conducted four in-depth interviews. A number of research papers reach opposed conclusions. These vary from the ones stating that "the ethicality of a firm's behavior is an important consideration during the purchase decision" and that consumers "will reward ethical behavior by a willingness to pay higher prices for that firm's product" (Creyer and Ross Jr. 1997) to others stressing that "although consumers may express a desire to support ethical companies and punish unethical companies their actual purchase behaviour often remains unaffected by ethical concerns" and that "price quality and value outweigh ethical criteria in consumer purchase behaviour" (Carrigan and Attalla 2001). Focusing on the advertising as the most prominent marketing communication tool we have constructed and conducted an interview consisting of four themes and nine questions. The conceptual frame of this paper is built on these four themes. THEME I. The Ethics in Advertising The first theme comprises two introductory questions about the ethics in advertising in general. I.A. How would you define the ethics in advertising? The term ethics in business involves "morality organisational ethics and professional deontology" (Isaac cited in Bergadaa' 2007). Every industry has its own guidelines for the ethical requirements. However the principal four requirements for marketing communiOther articles:http://www.tsinfo.net.cn/Blog/View/?331

an introduction to antique fur

An Introduction to Antique FurnitureFurniture has been a domestic necessity in all civilisations, ancient to modern (and in-between) and has been produced in large quantities over the centuries Developed from humble beginnings whereby the furniture was constructed out of simple designs by and large cut straight from one section of a tree to more advanced skilfully constructed pieces made possible by more advanced construction and woodwork techniques.(MarcJacobs Replica Bags). The basic requirements and categories are few We all need something to sleep on, chairs to sit on, tables and storage devices etc but it is the diversity within these sub-categories that is enormous. cheapAbercrombie .Chairs and furniture for sitting extends from the very simplest wooden stools, settles and chairs to deeply upholstered sofas and settees A wide variety of different tables can be used for dining or other domestic usage, working, recreation purposes or just for decoration Storage Furniture covers a multitude of varieties and uses from chests-of drawers, wardrobes, display cabinets and bookcases.(Fendi Replica Handbags). Writing furniture includes bureaux, secretaires and desksWhen we come to think of it, the wide variety of furniture is never more visible than when we think of the wide variety of construction techniques used and the shape and decoration.(Balenciaga Handbags Replica). These last categories have quite often been more affected by a region or country of origin, the maker and period of manufactureMuch of the collectability of antique furniture comes from these very differences, but nevertheless just as important (lest we forget) are the aesthetic qualities of the timber that is used in the manufactureWhether this is hardwood, softwood, solid or veneered, stained and polished wooden furniture If the furniture is well cared for it will increase in both desirability and valueFurniture: The Basics Over the Centuries, furniture has developed from simple designs cut from one basic section of a tree or bush, with joints held together by wooden pegs, to skilfully constructed and designed pieces made using increasingly more skilful and masterful techniquesIn many ways the 17th century was considered by many to be the golden era as far as furniture was concerned After all in the UK this was the era of Thomas Chippendale (1718-79) From the 17th Century onwards, many items of furniture became smaller and lighter; seating became more upholstered for comfort.(VersaceHandbags). As wood turning skills developed and advanced, heavy, plain styles gave way to elegant designs with intricate carving and veneering In the late 17th Century gilding and lacquering were introduced and the use of more exotic timbers and hardwoods began to increase with their import from worldwide Other articles: http://chanelreplica2010.jesusfreak.de/2010/06/16/the-seven-deadly-sins-of-adver/http://bbs.iomv.com/space/?uid-559485-action-viewspace-itemid-41968
